Jumar ascender.
This is perhaps the earliest Jumar in my collection.
Jumar ascender Note: if you’re doing any kind of big wall climbing or going up multiple pictures of rope in a day, you’re probably going to find it more efficient to use the more traditional two jumar system. Jumar ascenders were given Swiss Patent 362351 in 1962, with the original application dated March 22, 1958. It was intended to be used with commercially produced mechanical ascenders, Jümars (later spelled Jumars), which were sold by them. Gibbs Free Feb 7, 2019 ยท With just a Petzl Grigri and an ascender, you can quickly and safely ascend and descend a fixed rope. They were the preferred ascender in the Ropewalker system in the 70’s and 80’s, but have mostly been replaced by Jumar style ascenders. Jusi was studying eagles for the Swiss Government, and desired an ascender (rather than relying on the traditional technique of prusiking using friction knots The leverage that the cam can apply to the rope makes them very good on icy or muddy ropes, but they are very slow to install or remove. The Jumar system was then suggested for mechanical ascenders in 1958 by Adolph Jüsi and Walter Marti, who ran the company Jümar Pangit in Reichenbach, Switzerland. Jumar developed the mechanical ascender in the 1950s as a tool to aid in ascending fixed ropes during mountaineering expeditions. It lists the manufacturer as Apparetebau Marti, not using the later name Jümar Pangit. . The device was designed to grip the rope securely when downward pressure was applied but to slide freely when lifted, allowing climbers to ascend the rope efficiently while maintaining safety. A popular example of the ascender is the jumar, named for its inventors Adolph Jüsi and Walter Marti and the Swiss firm Jümar Pangit they created to manufacture it, beginning in 1958. Gibbs-style ascender options include: Gibbs Spring-Loaded. This is perhaps the earliest Jumar in my collection. The SRT ascender jumars also have the lockable cam on the rope and the biner through the hole in the jumar also provides a backup so that there is absolutely no way that the jumar can come off the rope even in the most severe traversing situations. The wording on the plate is interesting, since it does not refer to the ascender as a Jumar. zscsfkvnkdooewqgbsbawounnllxnpvnrjntilvtnazbp
